AFGE URGES DOD TO SHIFT BUDGET-CUTTING FOCUS TO CONTRACTORS

The American Federation of Government Employees is urging the Defense Department to take a balanced approach to spending reductions that subjects private contractors to the same cost-cutting scrutiny that has already been placed upon the civilian workforce.

The Pentagon has pledged to cut $450 billion in spending during the next decade.

HOUSE REPUBLICANS SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF BULLYING TACTICS AIMED AT TSA WORKERS

Social Security Advocates Join Forces to Protest Budget Cuts at More than 130 Social Security Offices across the Country

Thousands of American Federation of Government Employees Social Security employees at more than 130 Social Security offices across the country, along with the Alliance for Retired Americans, the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, and the Strengthen Social Security Campaign took to the streets today to protest recent proposals from Congress that would cut the Social Security Administration’s operational budget.

EEOC threatens furloughs for employees

Equal Employment Opportunity Commission employees could be facing furloughs thanks to proposed cuts in the agency's fiscal 2012 budget.

In an email to staff late last month, EEOC Chairwoman Jacqueline Berrien wrote that a drop in funding could force the agency to consider furloughs for its nearly 1,800 workers. The current continuing resolution cuts EEOC's budget by $5.5 million.

Largest Federal Employee Union Joins with Progressive Groups at Jobs Not Cuts Rally on Capitol Hill

The American Federation of Government Employees, the country’s largest federal and DC employee union, will join with hundreds of people in the American Dream Movement at the Jobs Not Cuts rally on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, October 5 at noon.  AFGE and the American Dream Movement are urging Congress to focus on creating good jobs, and making the tax system work for all Americans, not just the super rich.

The event is being organized by the American Dream Movement and comes as a culmination of the progressive “Take Back the American Dream” conference put on by Campaign

AFGE Urges EEOC to Evaluate and Enhance Workplace Discrimination Guidelines

(Washington, DC) -  The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the nation’s largest federal employee union, offered clarifications and changes to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) regarding Management Directive 715 (MD 715). This annual report requires agencies to take affirmative actions to identify and remove any barriers to equal employment opportunities of all federal workers.
